Scuba Divemaster & Professional Courses
Mid-Atlantic Scuba Center (MASC) has been a PADI 5-Star Instructor Development Center since 1987. With decades of combined experience, MASC is the right place to go if you’re interested in becoming a PADI Divemaster and working with new students. It may be the next step in your hobby or you may want to become a PADI Instructor and move to the islands to teach scuba. We offer PADI professional level programs including PADI Divemaster, Assistant Instructor, and Open Water Scuba Instructor. Programs include internships working with qualified instructors over a period of at least six to eight months. Learn more about professional-level training below.
PADI Divemaster
GO Pro! The PADI Divemaster Course is the first professional rating in the PADI System of Diver Education. As a Divemaster Candidate you will refine your diving skills and learn the best ways to demonstrate those skills to entry level students and certified divers. You will also gain added knowledge in dive theory while improving your people skills. Once you complete the course and become a certified, insured PADI Divemaster you will be able to lead divers on tours, assist with classes, and independently conduct certain PADI programs such as Scuba Tune-Up, Discover Snorkeling, and Skin Diver.
What You Learn
During the PADI Divemaster program, you learn dive leadership skills through both classroom and independent study. You complete water skills and stamina exercises, as well as training exercises that stretch your ability to organize and solve problems as well as help others improve their scuba. You put this knowledge into action through a structured internship or series of practical training exercises.
As you progress through your Divemaster course, you’ll expand your diving knowledge, hone you skills and increase your confidence. Then, as a PADI Divemaster, you’ll use these attributes to lead, mentor and motivate other divers and experience the joy of seeing them transformed by the majesty of the aquatic realm.

PADI Assistant Instructor
As a PADI Divemaster you learned the importance of expert skills and knowledge; now is your chance to share that knowledge as an Assistant Instructor. The Assistant Instructor course, which can be completed in as little as three days, is the first part of the PADI Instructor Development Course. This course is designed to introduce you to the PADI System of Diver Education; you will learn how to develop classroom, pool, and open water presentations. As a certified and insured Assistant Instructor you will be able to independently conduct a number of PADI courses and experiences such as Discover Scuba, Bubblemaker, Seal Team, Peak Performance Buoyancy, and Project AWARE. And working with a PADI Instructor, you will also be able to present academic and pool skills to entry-level students and lead continuing education students on Specialty or Adventure Dives. This will give you the opportunity to practice your newly leaned presentation skills in preparation for the PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor Course and the Instructor Examination.

PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor
The PADI Open Water Scuba Instructor program is the second half of the Instructor Development Course. In as little as four days, you can refine the teaching skills that you learned during your Assistant Instructor Course and prepare yourself for the Instructor Exam. You will also have the opportunity to refine your rescue skills and skill demonstrations. Following the completion of your OWSI course you will feel well prepared and confident, not only for your Instructor Exam, but also to begin your teaching career.

- Supervise both training and non-training-related activities by planning, organizing and directing dives
- Assist a PADI Instructor during the training sessions for any PADI Diver course
- Conduct the PADI Skin Diver course and PADI Discover Snorkeling program
- Conduct the PADI Discover Local Diving experience
- Conduct the PADI Scuba Review program
- If qualified as a Discover Scuba Diving Leader, independently conduct the PADI Discover Scuba Diving program.
- Earn the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating to be able to teach the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty.
- Accompany student divers during Adventure Dives or Specialty training dives under the indirect supervision of a PADI Instructor.

- Conduct PADI Discover Scuba Diving experiences in a pool or confined water
- Conduct PADI Seal Team AquaMissions
- Teach PADI Digital Underwater Photographer specialty courses under the direction of a PADI Instructor after earning the PADI Digital Underwater Photographer Specialty Instructor rating
