Children are naturally curious and
often drawn to the sea. It is therefore not surprising that even the youngest children may
want to learn how to snorkel or dive.
Introducing children to diving requires a partnership between the child, the parent, and the
instructor that relies on two way communication between all three for maximum effectiveness.
While most children are physically, mentally, and emotionally ready to learn to dive others
may need to start at a more basic level and work their way up to certification.
That is why the PADI system incorporates several levels of children’s programs;
each of which is designed for a particular age group and/or maturity level.
All Junior Diver Courses (Junior Scuba Diver, Junior Open Water Diver,
Junior Adventure Diver, and Junior Advanced Open Water Diver) are presented
using the same study materials and requirements as the adult courses.
The information is presented in a manner consistent with the skill level of the students.
Junior certification can be upgraded to a standard certification when a child reaches
the age of 15.
